We have produced a standardised set of contracts known as the Sales, Operations and Maintenance Set (‘SOMS’) of contract documentation for heat network developers and operators. The creation of standardised contracts is significant to developers by introducing a best practice approach by standardising the core legal drafting and removing the cost of creating fundamentally similar contract forms multiple times for each project yet providing the flexibility to tailor contracts for each project. The SOMS remove a key obstacle faced by developers enabling faster development on projects. This will in turn build market confidence by making projects more investable and improving conversion rates through the commercialisation stage and into construction. The reduction in project CAPEX will improve returns and costs to consumers.
