Our team visited Brent Cross Town last month, North London’s new £8 billion regeneration scheme. The development received £14 million from the Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF) for a low carbon heat network that will help Brent Cross Town achieve its pledge of reaching net zero carbon by 2030.
We were honoured to be invited for a tour around the development that will connect to a new low carbon heat network supported by GHNF. The project, which is a joint venture between Related Argent and Barnet Council, will provide low carbon heating and hot water to 6,700 new homes, three million square feet of commercial space, and over 50 new shops, cafes, and restaurants. The network will also provide low carbon cooling to selected plots.
The network will be powered by air source heat pumps, electrical boilers, and thermal stores. Upon completion in 2027, the system will deliver 30 MW of heating and 20 MW of cooling across the new development.
The tour of the network included a first-hand look at the site for the network’s planned Main Energy Centre which is set to be one of the largest all-electric energy centres in Europe. The site visit also highlighted the importance of the project for the local community, as it supports 121 long term jobs in the sector.
We were particularly impressed to see over 100 residents already connected to the heat network via a temporary energy centre, putting the project on track for its completion targets.
